Forks' Infrastructure

Very shortly the League of Women Voters will publish its Election Guide. Here is a sneak preview of my response to the question that the League asked each candidate.

Question:

WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS THE MAJOR ISSUE IN THIS CAMPAIGN AND HOW WILL YOU ADDRESS IT?

My Response:

Preserving Forks' infrastructure is the major issue. Imagine Forks when all the 1000 already approved homes are built. Developers want more. Families move in, and school enrollments increase. Roadways are limited and stressed. Water and sewerage expansion is a concern. We will need more fire fighters, police and emergency services. Open space is at risk. I believe in balancing development by upholding zoning codes and comprehensive plans. I will encourage new businesses and light manufacturing.

Candidates had to limit their responses to 75 words. I was able to write my message within the limit. However, I would have liked to write more.

As both the assistant chairman of the Zoning Hearing Board and the chairman of the Transportation Committee, I have had lots of experience dealing with Forks' infrastructure. Recently our township engineer said that Forks is “built out,” and I agree with his description. Because Forks is “built out,” its infrastructure cannot handle any more stress. Our roads, land, and schools are maxed out. As a supervisor, I will devote my energy to finding ways to prevent any more stress on the township we live in and love.
